I've had the honor and pleasure of knowing and photographing Eva Zeisel. Today she celebrates her 104th birthday. Eva is an industrial designer. She was the first to have a one-woman show at the MoMA.
Eva was born in Budapest. She lived in Moscow and at age 29 was appointed artistic director of the Soviet ceramics industry. She was imprisoned for 16 months, accused of participating in an assassination plot on Stalin. She was released, deported to Vienna, then fled Nazi invasion and moved to New York.
Some of her work is on display today at the MoMA. She has lines available at Bloomingdales and Crate and Barrel to name a few. She continues to work to this day (quite possibly the secret to her longevity).
